RE: Call for Papers, Joint CRIW-NBER Summer Institute Session

The NBER and CRIW are continuing an initiative whose goal is to increase
further the professional interactions among those collecting, publishing
and using government economic statistics.

To that end, in summer 2004 the NBER's Productivity Program and the CRIW
will jointly sponsor two workshops. The first, a one-day pre-conference on
Microeconomics, will meet on Friday, July 23 at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in
Cambridge, MA. This pre-conference is being organized by Dr. Timothy Dunne
of the Bureau of the Census, Professor Brad Jensen of the Institute for
International Economics, and Professor Mark Roberts of Pennsylvania State
University.

The second joint NBER/CRIW workshop will be held on Monday and Tuesday,
July 26 and 27. We plan to have 5-6 papers each day, with a discussant
presenting each paper. All interested researchers are encouraged to visit
the NBER website at www.nber.org/CRIW to obtain further information.

The purpose of this memo is to invite you to submit proposed papers for the
two all-day sessions on Monday and Tuesday, July 26-27, 2004 to the
workshop organizers (Charles Hulten - hulten@econ.umd.edu, Ernst Berndt -
eberndt@mit.edu, and Carol Corrado - carol.a.corrado@frb.gov) no later than
April 16, 2004. Please send your papers/detailed abstract in PDF format or
in a format readable by Word.

Travel expenses for presenters and discussants will be reimbursed in
accordance with the NBER travel guidelines. However, due to budget
constraints, expenses for other participants cannot be covered. The NBER
Conference Department will assist in making lodging and other logistical
arrangements. Invitations will be sent out in May.

Please note! The dates of this workshop will coincide with the Democratic
National Convention so it will be particularly important that travel and
hotel reservation be made well ahead of time.

If you have any questions, please contact Rob Shannon in the NBER's
Conference Department at 617/868-3900, fax 617/864-1825, or email
confer@nber.org.
