Dear LE & PIE Program Members -

I am sorry to convey the news that Suzanne Scotchmer, who was an NBER
Research Associate for more than fifteen years, passed away on
Thursday. Suzanne made important contributions to our understanding of
the law and economics of innovation policy and intellectual property, as
well as to the theory of clubs and to evolutionary game theory.

Suzanne grew up in Alaska, was an undergraduate at the University of
Washington, and received her Ph.D. from the University of California at
Berkeley. She taught at Harvard for several years before returning to
Berkeley, where she held joint appointments as a professor of economics,
public policy, and law. Suzanne was an active contributor to the NBER
and to many other research communities. She will be deeply missed.
