Dear ITI Progam Members,

I am very sorry to share the news that Peter Neary passed away today after a battle with cancer. Peter was Professor of Economics at the University of Oxford, and as you know, made fundamental contributions to the field of international trade throughout the entirety of his career. In addition to these landmark intellectual achievements, he played a key role in transforming economic research in his home country of Ireland (where he was a professor of economics for over 25 years at University College Dublin). He also played a key role in the development of international trade research in Europe, where has was the founding director of the international trade program at CEPR. Besides all of these outstanding accomplishments, he was also a remarkable person, with great warmth and humor.

As you know, Peter was a regular participant at NBER ITI conferences, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
