Call for papers for March meeting, and other items

Dear ITI group:

The next program meeting will be held March 22-23, 2013, at the NBER in Cambridge. Let me invite submissions of paper or abstracts. These should be electronically submitted to:

http://papers.nber.org/confsubmit/backend/cfp?id=ITIs13

The deadline for submissions is FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1.

Having just returned from the ASSA meetings, let me report on several other items:

1) I attended the NBER program directors dinner, where one topic of conversation was how to ensure that our research was recognized and valued by the agencies (including Congress) that ultimately control budgets. In this regard, I was impressed that the Economics of Education program, headed by Caroline Hoxby, recently held a regular program meeting in Washington, D.C., enabling a large number of persons from relevant agencies to attend. The ITI program has held meetings in D.C. in past years, and this may well be something we want to consider again. I would welcome your thoughts on this, via e-mail to me or at an upcoming meeting.

 2) I also attended a breakfast for the American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, where I serve on the editorial board. Let me take this opportunity to remind everyone that high-quality papers in international trade are welcomed at this journal, along with the other American Economic journals, of course.

Finally, future meeting dates are as follows:

Summer institute , July 8-11, 2013, organized by Eric Verhoogen and Steve Redding
Winter meeting, December 6-7, 2013, San Francisco Fed

Sincerely,
Rob
