Dear Colleague,

RESIDENT SCHOLAR POSITION IN TRADE AT THE IMF, 2005-06.

I would like to bring to your attention a resident scholar position at
the Trade Unit of the International Monetary Fund's Research Department.
The resident scholar will spend 6-24 months at the Unit that could
commence as early as May 1, 2005.

* The primary responsibilities of the scholar are to engage in
trade related research, give seminars, and interact with other Trade
Unit members on trade issues. The scholar may also be requested to
contribute to some policy papers based on his/her research or to comment
on papers.

* The Fund pays a competitive salary plus benefits.

* Other things equal, we have a preference for someone who is
willing to spend a year or more at the Unit.

The IMF is an ideal place to pursue high quality research. We have a
lively seminar series and many interesting visitors with a variety of
research interests, and enjoy proximity to the greater international
trade community in the Washington DC area. In addition, the resident
scholar will have access to disaggregated data on bilateral trade and
tariff from the WTO, UNCTAD and other sources.

John Romalis (jromalis@imf.org) from the University of Chicago is the
current resident scholar. Mary Amiti(mamiti@imf.org), Stephen Tokarick
(stokarick@imf.org), Zhiwei Zhang (zzhang@imf.org), and myself are the
other members of the unit. Past resident scholars included Wolfgang
Keller, Anna Maria Mayda, and Arvind Panagariya.

If you are interested in such a position, please send an email to
Marlene George (mgeorge@imf.org) by January 7, 2005, with a brief
description of your intended research, the desired period of visit and a
vitae. You are welcome to forward this information to other interested
colleagues, and contact any member of the Unit for additional
information.

Sincerely,

Shang-Jin Wei
