Dear NBER Research Associate or Faculty Research Fellow,

I am writing to you to inform you of a new fellowship that will be
granted annually, beginning this year. The Department of Economics and
the International Economics Section at Princeton will grant a fellowship
to a young scholar (less than eight years from Ph.D.) who has interests
in international economics. The fellow will spend an academic year on
leave at Princeton, where he or she will take part in the research
activities of the department, but have no teaching responsibilities. We
are modeling the fellowship after the Hoover National Fellows program or
the Olin Fellowships at NBER; namely, a year to get research done in a
supportive environment without the pressures of teaching, administering
and advising.

The announcement of the fellowship is copied below.

I would appreciate if you would forward this message to anyone in your
department who you think might be interested in applying. I also
welcome your nominations of colleagues who might be interested. And of
course we would welcome applications from those among you who meet the
professional-age requirements.

Thanks for your attention.
Gene Grossman

(formerly the International Finance Section) at Princeton University
announce the creation of an annual Fellowship in International
Economics. This fellowship will be named in honor of our esteemed
colleague and long-time Director of the International Finance Section,
Peter B. Kenen, upon his retirement from the university. The Fellow
will spend an academic year as a visitor in the Department of Economics

International Economics Section and conducting his or her own research
on topics in international economics. He or she will be relieved of all
teaching responsibilities for the year.

The fellowship will be awarded annually, on a competitive basis.
Applications are due by January 31 of each year. Applicants should

all economists within eight years of their Ph.D. degree, will be
