Hi IO Program Members,

This is a reminder that the summer NSF application cycle is coming up, and
that the NBER encourages RAs and FRFs to apply for grants through the NBER.

Running your grant through the NBER has some nice benefits, including
portability, retirement contributions based on your summer salary funding,
and excellent administrative support. Grant overhead also is a key source
of funding that allows the NBER to run.

The NSF Economics program proposal due date is August 18 and further
information may be found at

http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=5437&org=NSF&sel_org=NSF&from=fund

Proposals for NSF CAREER grants, which may be submitted by junior faculty
members, have an earlier July 23 deadline. These are five year awards,
which makes them particularly attractive. Please note that you may apply
for a CAREER award through the NBER even though the application asks for a
"department head nomination". Information on CAREER grants may be found at:

http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=503214

The NBER contacts for grant applications are Alison Oaxaca (aoaxaca_at_nber.org)
and Alterra Milone (alterra_at_nber.org). They are extremely competent and
have a lot of experience helping people prepare and submit grant
applications.

Best regards,

Jon
