Dear Colleagues,
I am writing to
let you know about some exciting opportunities in the DOJ
Antitrust Division Economic Analysis Group (EAG) that might
interest you and/or your graduate students.
We would like to
extend an invitation to faculty and graduate students, who
would like to visit the group for a period of 6-12 months.
Exact times and duration are flexible. Visitors will work
with the Division’s staff, economists and lawyers, on actual
cases. Visitors will also be expected to interact with
economists on research involving IO, theory and
econometrics.
This visit is a
great opportunity to gain insights into the inner working of
the Division and a great way to get introduced to the world
of antitrust. Since visitors will be working on ongoing
investigations, this is a unique opportunity to have direct
access to industry information through confidential data,
documents, and interviews with executives of major rivals,
suppliers, and customers. The visit is also a very good way
to try to apply past research ideas in practice on actual
cases and get ideas for future research projects. For
graduate students the visit is a good way to get ideas for a
dissertation topic.
Visitors will
need to have funding from sabbatical leave, fellowships, or
other academic sources. US citizenship is required.
On a personal
note, as you might know I have been at the DOJ since the
beginning of April. I am finding it to be a fascinating and
exciting experience on many levels. I am happy to tell you
more about the visiting positions, if you are interested.
The quick summary is that this is a great opportunity for
anyone interested in learning about the practical side of IO
and antitrust. I am sure that previous Economics Deputies,
as well as previous visitors, will also be happy to tell you
how rewarding it is to spend some time here.
