RE: Call for Papers, Joint CRIW-NBER Summer Institute Session

The NBER and the Conference on Research on Income and Wealth (CRIW)
work together to promote professional interactions among producers
and users of government economic statistics. To that end, on July 16,
2012, at the NBER Summer Institute, the NBER's Productivity,
Innovation, and Entrepreneurship Program and the CRIW will jointly
sponsor a workshop on "New Data Sources in Economics." The one-day
meeting will be devoted to papers using or developing new data
sources for tracking economic activity, or suggesting the need for
new economic data or indicators.
Potential papers might include studies that use data from various
e-commerce firms to track prices or quantities, projects that develop
or analyze indicators derived from private sources such as payroll
processors, credit bureaus, and on-line job boards, and
investigations of new administrative record data. Studies that
examine any potential new source of information that might inform the
national accounts or economic measurement are welcome.

We invite you to upload proposed papers in PDF format or a format
readable by Word to
http://www.nber.org/confsubmit/backend/cfp?id=SI12PRCR. The deadline
for submissions is March 30. If the paper is incomplete you may send
an abstract or rough draft now, with the finished paper due by June
30. We will only contact submitters whose papers are accepted.

Travel expenses for presenters and discussants will be reimbursed in
accordance with the NBER travel guidelines. Expenses for other
participants cannot be covered. The NBER has secured a block of
rooms at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge. Information regarding
making hotel reservations will be included in your invitation. If
you have any questions, please contact Rob Shannon in the NBER's
Conference Department at 617/868-3900 or rshannon_at_nber.org
