TO: Participants in the NBER IO Summer Institute, July 22-23

RE: Important preparation for this week's meeting
Jon Levin and Alan Sorensen have put together a terrific program for
the IO meeting later this week, the authors have uploaded their papers
to the conference department website, and the discussants have been
putting in an enormous amount of time preparing their presentations.
Now
the success of the meeting depends crucially upon YOU!
Our format assumes that the audience has read the papers and has come
prepared with questions and comments for the floor discussion. We
don't ask, nor provide enough time, for discussants to present the
papers--their task is to set the stage for the discussion. Moreover,
the Summer Institute WILL NOT HAVE COPIES OF THE PAPERS AT THE MEETING
in quantities sufficient for the audience.
To make your job easier, we're attaching a zip file with all 7 papers.
If you read on screen, you can download this to your PC or reader. If
you prefer paper, perhaps you could forward it to your assistant for
printing. Whatever works best for you, please read the papers in
advance, and bring copies in your preferred format with you. We expect
a very large group on Thursday, and there will not be copies available,
nor can you ask the conference department to make them for you on the
spot.
I am frequently told by researchers that being on the program at NBER
IO meetings is extraordinarily valuable because of the quality of the
comments and discussion. Thanks in advance for taking the time to be a
well-prepared participant to contribute to that tradition.
See you Thursday!
