We are pleased to invite you to the third annual one-day conference on the Politics and Economics of International Finance (PEIF), to be held at Harvard on Saturday, April 1, 2017. Although this meeting is not affiliated with the NBER, we have timed it to take advantage of the IFM program meeting Friday, March 31. (You should receive the invitation for that event from the NBER Conference Department approximately Thursday, January 26.) PEIF can pay for the additional hotel night, Friday, even though it is anticipated that you will make the hotel reservations via the NBER Conference Department.
The PEIF series is made possible by a gift from Andrew Quale, Jr., a lawyer with a long history of professional interest in international financial affairs, and is organized under the auspices of Harvard's Weatherhead Center for International Affairs. Our goal is to bring together scholars interested in economic and political-economy issues in international financial relations - not just economists but also political scientists and others.
Our first two meetings were highly successful, by all reports. The format will be mostly the same again this year: Rather than asking scholars to present a single paper, we are asking several scholars to present a body of their ongoing research. This may include circulating a paper or papers in advance, but we are asking the scholar to present a broader overview of the work in progress. There will also be two panels at the end of the day, including a dialogue with Olivier Blanchard and Raghu Rajan. The complete program is attached.
