Dear IFM Program Members:

In 2009, Pentti Kouri passed away at the age of 59.Pentti was one of the
first members of the NBER's International Studies (IS) program, the
precursor to both the International Finance and Macroeconomics (IFM) and
International Trade and Investment (ITI) programs. Pentti's untimely
death was a great loss. His research on exchange rate determination and
capital flows, much of which appeared in the NBER working paper series,
was path-breaking and influenced the direction of subsequent research.

The Yrjö Jahnsson Foundation has generously supported the production of
a volume of Pentti's most important papers, including his 1975 Ph.D.
thesis at MIT.A copy of the volume's cover is attached. The volume has
been edited by Jorge Braga de Macedo, who was Pentti's student and who
is also a Research Associate in the IFM program, and Urho Lempinen. At
Jorge's request, the publishing house, Taloustieto Oy, will be sending
complimentary copies of this volume to all IFM program members this
summer.I hope that you will find this volume of interest. All best wishes.
