Re: RESIDENT SCHOLAR POSITION IN TRADE AND INVESTMENT AT THE IMF,
2006-07

Dear Colleague,

I would like to bring to your attention a resident scholar position at
the Trade and Investment Division of the International Monetary Fund's
Research Department. The resident scholar will spend 6-12 months at the
Division that could commence as early as May 1, 2006.

* The primary responsibilities of the scholar are to engage in
high-quality, high-impact research in international economics,
contribute to some policy papers at the division based on his/her
expertise, and interact with other members of the division including
commenting on their research papers.
* The Fund pays a competitive salary plus benefits.
* Other things equal, we have a preference for someone who is
willing to spend a year.
The IMF is an ideal place to pursue high quality research. We have a
lively seminar series and many interesting visitors with a variety of
research interests, and enjoy proximity to the greater international
economics community in the Washington DC area. In addition, the
resident scholar will have access to disaggregated data on bilateral
trade and tariff from the WTO, UNCTAD and other sources and a reservoir
of insight and other resources at the IMF.

Phillip McCalman (pmccalman@imf.org) is the current resident scholar.
Mary Amiti (mamiti@imf.org), Stephen Tokarick (stokarick@imf.org),
Zhiwei Zhang (zzhang@imf.org), M.K. Tang (mtang@imf.org) and myself are
the other members of the division. Past resident scholars include John
Romalis (jromalis@gsb.uchicago.edu), Wolfgang Keller, Arvind Panagariya,
and Anna Maria Mayda.

If you are interested in such a position, please send an email to
Patricia Medina (pmedina@imf.org) by January 9, 2006, with a brief
one-page description of your intended research, the desired period of
the visit and a vitae. You are welcome to forward this information to
other interested colleagues, and contact any member of the division for
additional information.

Sincerely,

Shang-Jin Wei
