A short obit is attached. The full obit appeared in the NYT today, July 27,
on p. A24.

We will all miss Rudi for his originality, insights, grace, and humor.
Among his many well-recognized inventions and insights, one may not be well
known -- he invented the dynamic supply/demand-shock model of the Phillips
curve that has long appeared in many macro textbooks in a classroom handout
at the Univ of Chi business school in the spring of 1975.

MIT Economist Dornbusch Dies of Cancer at 60, University Says

Cambridge, Massachusetts July 26 (Bloomberg) -- Rudiger
Dornbusch, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology economist
known for his study of exchange rates, died of cancer on Thursday,
the university said. He was 60.
The Ford Professor of International Economics at MIT,
Dornbusch's most-cited work was a 1976 paper that showed how
exchange rates are volatile because they have a tendency to
``overshoot'' in the short-run before correcting over time.
``He never let fad or emotion obscure the fundamental
realities of the economic situation,'' John Reed, retired chairman
of Citigroup Inc. and a member of the MIT Corporation, the
university's board of trustees, said in a statement issued by MIT.
Born on June 8, 1942 in Germany, Dornbusch graduated from
the University of Geneva in 1966 before receiving a masters and
doctorate in economics from the University of Chicago. He joined
the MIT faculty in 1975.
He is survived by his wife.
