Subject: Updates from NIA/BSR: COVID-19 research opportunities and resources

Dear colleagues,

I’m writing to share information on new funding opportunities and research resources relevant to social, behavioral, and economic research on COVID-19.

Funding Opportunities:
We are excited to announce NIA’s participation in two COVID-19 intervention-focused Notices of Special Interest soliciting Competitive and Administrative Supplements to existing grants, open June 10, 2020 – December 30, 2020. Both announcements focus on NIH-designated health disparity populations and other populations with medical or social vulnerabilities.
· The first, NOT-MD-20-022 [grants.nih.gov]<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__grants.nih.gov_grants_guide_notice-2Dfiles_NOT-2DMD-2D20-2D022.html&d=DwMGaQ&c=8v77JlHZOYsReeOxyYXDU39VUUzHxyfBUh7fw_ZfBDA&r=VKBEDrI-4YYLaJVodCF1gKaIQ5dqQoyubJF8M_lSv1E&m=27xx6PPvswFQrIvo5R8Nq8AuUGR_JxPA7jLlI8LZr0Q&s=3-6vEu981STsI-MQgX6R9lLTpXXDh2DnuiYMwS7696s&e=>: Competitive and Administrative Supplements for Community Interventions to Reduce the Impact of COVID-19 on Health Disparity and Other Vulnerable Populations, solicits interventions to prevent or slow the spread of COVID-19 among disparities populations. Programs that operate at multiple levels of influence are strongly encouraged.
· The second, NOT-MH-20-053 [grants.nih.gov]<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__grants.nih.gov_grants_guide_notice-2Dfiles_NOT-2DMH-2D20-2D053.html&d=DwMGaQ&c=8v77JlHZOYsReeOxyYXDU39VUUzHxyfBUh7fw_ZfBDA&r=VKBEDrI-4YYLaJVodCF1gKaIQ5dqQoyubJF8M_lSv1E&m=27xx6PPvswFQrIvo5R8Nq8AuUGR_JxPA7jLlI8LZr0Q&s=xNyz3Z9NHt5j81PKS9F_7iPBTKcc-rzXMkFW4pZcf0I&e=>: Digital Healthcare Interventions to Address the Secondary Health Effects Related to Social, Behavioral, and Economic Impact of COVID-19, seeks research that employs digital health assessments and interventions to address the secondary health effects of social, behavioral, and economic changes due to COVID-19, particularly among disparities populations.
Notices of Intent to Publish PARs soliciting new research in these areas have also been published:

Research Resources for COVID-19 research:

Since late March NIA has been working with OBSSR [obssr.od.nih.gov]<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__obssr.od.nih.gov_&d=DwMGaQ&c=8v77JlHZOYsReeOxyYXDU39VUUzHxyfBUh7fw_ZfBDA&r=VKBEDrI-4YYLaJVodCF1gKaIQ5dqQoyubJF8M_lSv1E&m=27xx6PPvswFQrIvo5R8Nq8AuUGR_JxPA7jLlI8LZr0Q&s=OU4nbLR63dilxZj-Fb-16AMI5i3cii2Yr6BPrPnw5Ug&e=>, NLM (DR2) [dr2.nlm.nih.gov]<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__dr2.nlm.nih.gov_&d=DwMGaQ&c=8v77JlHZOYsReeOxyYXDU39VUUzHxyfBUh7fw_ZfBDA&r=VKBEDrI-4YYLaJVodCF1gKaIQ5dqQoyubJF8M_lSv1E&m=27xx6PPvswFQrIvo5R8Nq8AuUGR_JxPA7jLlI8LZr0Q&s=nwbPZIVdAsIhYpXNj7Cjv7S6vHRZotsn8QyHRIAMl-o&e=>, and PhenX Toolkit [phenxtoolkit.org]<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.phenxtoolkit.org_covid19_&d=DwMGaQ&c=8v77JlHZOYsReeOxyYXDU39VUUzHxyfBUh7fw_ZfBDA&r=VKBEDrI-4YYLaJVodCF1gKaIQ5dqQoyubJF8M_lSv1E&m=27xx6PPvswFQrIvo5R8Nq8AuUGR_JxPA7jLlI8LZr0Q&s=h8VmOrldKZlFXxMo7jWIkMy4UV6umbuti-APXw3fUQs&e=> to facilitate the sharing of COVID-19-specific questionnaires, modules, and scales with the research community to encourage harmonization and discourage the development of one-off survey instruments. There are more than 60 different survey tools available organized by main topics across both sites (e.g., symptoms, mental health, perceptions, risk-reduction behaviors, personal and family impacts). We continue to streamline the process and now have an online intake form [dr2.nlm.nih.gov]<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__dr2.nlm.nih.gov_datacollection&d=DwMGaQ&c=8v77JlHZOYsReeOxyYXDU39VUUzHxyfBUh7fw_ZfBDA&r=VKBEDrI-4YYLaJVodCF1gKaIQ5dqQoyubJF8M_lSv1E&m=27xx6PPvswFQrIvo5R8Nq8AuUGR_JxPA7jLlI8LZr0Q&s=8mAUj_QPKkKJpWppstm_1814s9Bwoc3wrAcHL8g9eD0&e=> for researchers interested in submitting an instrument to share. Note that the intake form is hosted on the DR2 site, but submissions will be considered for both DR2 and PhenX. Extramural investigators are invited and encouraged, as applicable, to (1) use these sites to identify existing tools when you are considering adding COVID-19-specific items to an ongoing study rather than developing something new; and (2) use the intake form (https://dr2.nlm.nih.gov/datacollection [dr2.nlm.nih.gov]<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__dr2.nlm.nih.gov_datacollection&d=DwMGaQ&c=8v77JlHZOYsReeOxyYXDU39VUUzHxyfBUh7fw_ZfBDA&r=VKBEDrI-4YYLaJVodCF1gKaIQ5dqQoyubJF8M_lSv1E&m=27xx6PPvswFQrIvo5R8Nq8AuUGR_JxPA7jLlI8LZr0Q&s=8mAUj_QPKkKJpWppstm_1814s9Bwoc3wrAcHL8g9eD0&e=>) to submit for consideration a unique COVID-19-specific instrument you have already developed, tested, and administered that you are willing to share publicly for use by other researchers. Email NIHCovid19Measures_at_od.nih.gov<mailto:NIHCovid19Measures_at_od.nih.gov> with any questions.
