Everyone,
Earlier this summer, you received information about RFA (request for application) from the National Institute on Aging (NIA) titled "Socioeconomic Disparities in Health and Mortality at Older Ages" from Janet Stein. The full version of the RFA is attached. When I met with Jim Poterba at the 2017 Summer Institute on July 24, he emphasized to me that he is anxious for several R01 grant applications to be submitted through the NBER in response to the RFA. This is especially true in light of previous research by members of the staff on this topic and because RFAs involve "set-aside" NIH funds that do not compete with funds for proposals submitted in response to program announcements. The RFA at issue requires a letter of intent to be received by September 20, 2017 and a full proposal to be received by October 20, 2017. The purpose of this message is to urge you to submit an application if you thinking you have an idea that is within the scope of the RFA. If you have questions, you can contact, Janet Stein or Marinella Moscheni about administrative details concerning the submission. You also can contact me about questions concerning the sections of the proposal dealing with the research plan.
