Dear Health Economics program members -

I am very sorry to report the untimely passing of John Vernon, who died
at home on June 19. I just learned of this news. John, who was 43, was
an assistant professor of health policy and management at the Gillings
School of Global Health at the University of North Carolina. He was
also an NBER Faculty Research Fellow in the Health Economics program,
which he joined in 2004. He was an active contributor to research on
the economics of the pharmaceutical industry and a range of other issues.

John was an undergraduate at Duke, received a masters degree from North
Carolina State, and held Ph.D.s from both the City University of London
and the Wharton School. He was a valued member of the Health Economics
program, and he will be deeply missed.
