Everyone,

Some of you have asked me about reimbursement for attendance at the
Summer Institute. The NBER rules are as follows.

(1). Hotel stay at Royal Sonesta is prepaid by NBER.

(2). Air fare or train fare is reimbursed at the rate of $100 a day for
each day that you attend the Summer Institute up at a maximum of $500.
If you travel by car, the reimbursement is at $0.505 per mile subject to
the same rules as air or train fare. So if you attended the Health
Economics Workshop, for 2 days, you would get reimbursement equal to
$200. If you attend workshops run by other programs on days other than
the Monday and Tuesday on which HE met, you would get additional
reimbursement if you had written invitations to attend those workshops
from the program director

(3). Local travel is reimbursed up to $65.

(4). Breakfast and lunch are provided by NBER. There is no
reimbursement for dinner or for breakfast and lunch purchased by you.

(5), If you have a grant, unreimbursed expenses can be billed to the
grant. For example, assume two days of attendance and an air fare of
$400. Of that amount, $200 could be billed to a grant.

If you have not submitted your expense report and do not have the form,
one is attached. You should attach receipts. If you do not have a
receipt and the item is less than $25, describe what is was for. Do not
mail the form to me. Mail it to the Conference Department, NBER, 1050
Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA 02138.

If you have questions, contact Rob Shannon.
