Dear All,
No geographic identifiers will be included in birth, death, fetal death,
and linked birth/infant death data public-use micro-data files beginning
with the 2005 data year. This is due to a restriction imposed by the
States.

contains instructions for requesting state- and county-indentified
versions of NCHS Vital Statistics micro-data. Basically, NCHS requests
a short summary of the researcher's project and a short explanation of why
the restricted data is needed. I have applied for this type of data from
NCHS in the past and it was not onerous or time-consuming to request and
receive the data, but I wanted to let you know about this change.
