Brandeis University invites applications for the Jack N. and Lorraine
Friedman Chair in Health Policy. The chair will hold a joint appointment
in The Heller School for Social Policy and Management and an appropriate
department in the College of Arts and Sciences. We are seeking an
innovative, broad-thinking scholar with an established research career in
health policy analysis. The appointment will be at the tenured associate
or full professor level, preferably beginning Fall 2005. The primary
appointment of the chair may be either in a department within the College
of Arts and Sciences or at The Heller School, where the appointee will join
an outstanding interdisciplinary faculty actively engaged in a wide range
of health policy research. The chair's occupant will have teaching
responsibilities in the rapidly growing new undergraduate program
Health: Science, Society and Policy (HSSP). HSSP is an interdisciplinary
major that merges Brandeis's strengths in the life sciences, social
sciences, and health policy. The appointee must have a PhD or equivalent,
evidence of superior teaching accomplishments, and a distinguished research
record in the social, political, bioethical, or economic analyses of health
policy issues. We are particularly interested in the analysis of
biomedical or pharmaceutical technologies and their impact on such pressing
societal concerns as resource allocation, equity, disparities in health
status, relation to the medical profession, and access to medical
care. Salary and benefits are competitive. Candidates should send a
letter of application, Curriculum Vitae, names and addresses of three
references, and at least three samples of published work. We will begin
reviewing applications on January 15, 2005, though applications will be
considered until the post is filled. Brandeis is an Equal
Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. Women and minority candidates are
encouraged to apply. Send applications to Professor Peter Conrad and
Professor Stuart Altman, Friedman Chair in Health Policy Search Committee,
MS 55, Brandeis University, Waltham, MA 02454-9110.
