Dear Health Care Program Members -

I am very grateful to the many program members who have spoken with me
since Jon Gruber announced in October that he was ready to pass the
baton of program leadership.  I have learned a great deal about what has
contributed to the program's success and about the frontier topics that
researchers in the program are currently exploring.  It is an exciting
moment to be studying health care researcher!

I am delighted to announce that Amy Finkelstein and Heidi Williams have
agreed to serve as co-directors of the Health Care Program starting next
July.  Both are wide-ranging scholars with deep interests in health care
issues.  Amy's research has focused on the consequences of health
insurance coverage for health outcomes and for the health care system,
and on selection effects in health insurance markets.  An NBER affiliate
since 2001, she is the John and Jennie S. MacDonald Professor of
Economics at MIT, where she also serves as the co-Scientific Director of
JPAL-North America.  Amy currently co-directs the NBER's Public
Economics Program; she will step down from that role at the end of this
academic year.  Heidi Williams is a Professor of Economics at Stanford.
An NBER affiliate since 2010, her research focuses on innovation in
health care markets, with particular attention to the pharmaceutical
industry and the role of intellectual property rights in affecting the
process of health care discovery.  I look forward to working with them
to build on the Health Care Program's past successes and to launch new
initiatives.  Please welcome them to their new roles.

I hope that you will be able to join me for lunch this Friday, at the
Health Care Program meeting in Cambridge, when we will have an
opportunity to thank Jon Gruber for his service as program director.  I
look forward to seeing you there; all best wishes.
