*NBER Health Economics Research Boot Camp 2022Call for Applicants*

The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) will host a
research-focused workshop on topics in health economics on June 13-14,
2022, in Berkeley, CA. This intensive workshop provides an introduction to
select research topics in health economics, focusing on those that
intersect with industrial organization, public economics, and behavioral
economics. The workshop is supported by the National Science Foundation
(NSF).

The program will include thirteen hours of lectures by experienced and
active research professors. Scheduled speakers include Liran Einav
(Stanford), Matt Grennan (Berkeley), Ben Handel (Berkeley), Jonathan
Kolstad (Berkeley), Ziad Obermeyer (Berkeley), and Heidi Williams
(Stanford).

The workshop is meant to promote research interest in health economics. It
is particularly well suited for PhD students in economics who are either
considering, or already doing research in this area. The minimum
requirement is that participants will have completed their first year of
PhD course work by June, 2022. Applicants who have completed between one
and three years of their PhD program will be given priority, although more
advanced PhD students may apply. Participants are expected to carefully
prepare for the workshop by reading a syllabus of over 20 papers. As a
result of NSF support, participants will be reimbursed for travel expenses
(subject to NBER limits) and for three nights of hotel accommodation.

*Application Process*: Interested students should submit a packet
containing the following items no later than *11:59 pm ET on Thursday,
April 28, 2022*:

  • A curriculum vitae, including a list of all current and completed PhD
courses.
  • A two-page essay that explains why the applicant wants to attend the

current and future research direction.

The application package should be assembled into a single pdf and uploaded
here:

http://conference.nber.org/confsubmit/backend/cfp?id=HERAs22

When prompted for “Title of application,” applicants should insert their
name. In addition, the applicant’s Ph.D. adviser should send a letter of
recommendation of no more than two pages to Alison Oaxaca (aoaxaca_at_nber.org)
with an email title “Health Care Bootcamp Recommendation Letter.” Letters
will be treated confidentially. Applications that are not complete,
including the letter of recommendation, as of the closing date will not be
considered. Participants will be selected on a competitive basis and
informed of their selection in mid-May.
