Dear NBER Board Members, Researchers, and Staff Members -
Please join me in congratulating Oleg Itskhoki of UCLA, who is this
year's winner of the American Economic Association's John Bates Clark
Medal. Itskhoki has made path-breaking contributions in both
international trade and international finance. His research on trade
has provided new insights on how expanding trade can affect
within-country inequality. In international finance, he has developed
new solutions to several long-standing exchange rate puzzles, including
the uncovered interest parity puzzle and the PPP parity puzzle, and
studied the incomplete pass-through of exchange rates into prices. The
AEA prize citation notes that his findings "have far-reaching
implications for optimal policy that will be the focus of considerable
research in years to come." The full citation for his award may be
found at
www.aeaweb.org/about-aea/honors-awards/bates-clark/oleg-itskhoki
Itskhoki holds the Venu and Ana Kotamraju Endowed Chair in
Economics at UCLA. He is a Research Associate in four NBER programs:
International Trade and Investment, International Finance and
Macroeconomics, Economic Fluctuations and Growth, and Monetary Economics.
All best wishes.
Jim Poterba
