Dear NBER Board Members, Researchers, and Staff Members -

I hope that you will join me in congratulating two NBER researchers who
today were honored by the American Economic Association.

Roland G. Fryer, Jr., the Henry Lee Professor of Economics at Harvard
University, has been named this year's winner of the John Bates Clark
Medal. Roland has made important contributions in labor economics, the
economics of education, and the economic analysis of social programs.
The prize citation highlights his "innovative and creative research
contributions [that] have deepened our understanding of the sources,
magnitude, and persistence of U.S. racial inequality," and his
evaluations of various policies that are designed to improve economic
opportunities for disadvantaged children. Roland is "the leading
economist working on the economics of race and education." He is a
Research Associate in the NBER Labor Studies and Education programs.

The AEA also honored Gary Chamberlain, the Louis Berkman Professor of
Economics at Harvard University and a Research Associate in the NBER
Labor Studies program, as a Distinguished Fellow.

The detailed citations for both of these awards, as well as those for
the three other newly-honored Distinguished Fellows -- Ted Bergstrom,
Tom Rothenberg, and Hal Varian -- may be found at https://www.aeaweb.org/

All best wishes.
