Dear NBER Board Members, Researchers, and Staff -

Donna Zerwitz, the NBER's Director of Public Information, recently
informed me that she plans to retire at the end of June. I hope that
you will all join me in thanking Donna for her outstanding service to
the NBER. For more than three decades, she has played a critical role
in translating economic research into publicly-accessible language as
the editor and manager of the NBER Digest, the NBER Reporter, and more
recently the "paper of the day" on our website. She has also fielded
countless questions from the media, from students, and from other
interested observers about the business cycle dating committee, working
papers, and the NBER's mission. Donna has worked with literally
hundreds of NBER researchers in connection with our various
publications, and I know that they have appreciated all of her
contributions.

I will be starting a search immediately for Donna's successor. It
will be very hard to match Donna's broad and deep skill set. If you
know of any potential candidates who might be interested in a position
that combines writing about economic research, interacting with
journalists and other members of the press, and advancing the NBER's,
print, web and social media presence, I would be very grateful if you
would email me with your suggestions.

Thank you and all best wishes.

Jim Poterba
