  Dear NBER Researchers -

It was wonderful to see many of you at the 2010 Summer Institute. The 47
distinct meetings and over 400 paper presentations attracted more than
2100 participants. I am very grateful to all those who helped to plan
and organize this remarkable professional gathering.

As the new academic year begins, I would like to announce several
changes in the line-up of working group and program directors.

First, Brigitte Madrian of the Kennedy School at Harvard, who has been
actively involved in planning the recent meetings of the Household
Finance working group, has joined Nick Souleles and Peter Tufano as a
co-director of that group.

Second, Christina Romer of UC-Berkeley, who resigned from the NBER when
she joined the Council of Economic Advisers and who was elected (again)
as a Research Associate when the NBER's Board of Directors met on
Monday, has re-joined David Romer as a co-director of the Monetary
Economics Program.

Finally, to strengthen the important links between the Productivity
Program and the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Policy Working Groups,
Josh Lerner of the Harvard Business School will join Nick Bloom as
Productivity Program co-director when Ernie Berndt steps down as program
director in December. Josh will relinquish his current working group
co-director roles. Antoinette Schoar will continue to lead the
Entrepreneurship working group, and Scott Stern will continue as
director of the Innovation Policy group.

As always, I hope that you will not hesitate to send me suggestions of
ways to improve the Summer Institute and the NBER's many other
activities. All best wishes for the new academic year.

Sincerely,
Jim Poterba
