Dear colleagues,

It was a pleasure to see many of you at the NBER Summer Institute.

The question has often come up when our new historical cross-country credit dataset (NBER WP 15512) will be public. We were awaiting the completion of final checks on the data and the peer review.

I have now placed a zipped copy of the dataset (and replication files) on my website at the URL below.

The citation is:

Schularick, Moritz, and Alan M. Taylor. "Credit Booms Gone Bust: Monetary Policy, Leverage Cycles and Financial Crises, 1870-2008." American Economic Review. Forthcoming.

(The same zip file will eventually make its way onto the AER website).

We hope the data are of use. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with questions/suggestions/comments.

Sincerely yours,
Alan
