The Conference on Research in Income and Wealth, jointly with the NBER's
Productivity Program and Aggregate Implications of Microeconomic
Consumption Behavior (EFACR) group, is seeking papers focusing on problems
and solutions in the measurement of consumption expenditures at the
household level. We envisage a joint session on Monday morning, July 13,
and depending on the proposals received, possibly another joint session on
Tuesday morning, July 14. Attendees are of course invited to participate
in the concurrent CRIW/Productivity Program or Consumption Group meetings.

We anticipate and strongly encourage participation both by academics
working on topics related to consumption measurement, and by professional
staff from government statistical agencies, such as the Bureau of Labor
Statistics, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, and the Census Bureau. The
purpose of the joint session(s) is to attempt to assess how best to improve
the state of the art in measuring household consumption. Papers that
report on measurement methods for other countries or using novel methods
(such as backing out consumption expenditures from information on income
and changes in wealth) are particularly welcome.

Please submit papers by emailing a PDF to the joint session coorganizers,
Ernst Berndt (eberndt_at_mit.edu), Christopher Carroll (ccarroll_at_jhu.edu),
Carol Corrado (Carol.Corrado_at_conference-board.org) and Charles Hulten
(hulten_at_econ.umd.edu), no later than April 24, 2009. Authors of accepted
papers will be notified by May 15, 2009.
