Greetings,

Robin Burgess, John Sutton, and I are organizing a conference in London on
Dec. 3/4. The idea is to convene a group with a common interest in
understanding which factors drive industrial development. Economists
working in three areas: development economics, trade and industrial
organization have been looking at these issues but from disparate viewpoints.
Our intention is not to duplicate this work but rather to forge something
new at the interface of these three literatures. Papers, which look at
industrial performance directly, and at the link to institutions and
policies, are welcome.

The deadline for submission of papers or paper proposals, covering
empirical or theoretical topics, is October 31st, 2004. Papers should be
submitted electronically to both Robin Burgess (r.burgess@lse.ac.uk) and
Chang-Tai Hsieh (chsieh@econ.berkeley.edu). There are no publication
commitments implied by paper submissions.

Thanks.
