Dear EFG members:

You are being sent this message as a test. The NBER has assembled a large selection of data in Palm-compatible format that can be downloaded from the NBER web site. The message below explains how to do this. If you use a Palm device and could take a few minutes to read the memo and try the instructions I would be grateful for your feedback.

We plan to offer Palm m500 devices at half price. We are also considering offering the other devices, perhaps the Palm Vx, at a similar discount. If you plan to order one of the discounted Palms, or if you currently use one of these devices and have an opinion about which is most useful, please let me know.

    Thanks for your time!
Sue

TITLE: Macro data for the Palm devices and a new palm pilot at half price.

Subject: Macro data for the Palm devices and a new palm pilot at half price. T

The NBER has just created a large selection of data that you can easily download into your Palm Pilot or other Palm-compatible device.

The data now available include many of the tables from the Economic Report of the President and from the monthly Economic Indicators. These will be updated each month.

We also provide other things like the phone numbers of all NBER family members.

The complete list of data is available for viewing at www.nber.org/palm/customize.mcgi.

Over time we will be adding new data series or other sets of data (information by states, tax rates, etc. ) that you can choose if you want. Let me know if you have suggestions.

I am attaching instructions on how to set up your palm device to load the data initially and to update each time you hotsync your palm device.

In order to set this up, you must install AvantGo (free) on your Palm compatible device. Complete instructions for installing AvantGo and the NBER data are available at www.nber.org/palmdata/instructions.

For those of you who do not yet own a palm pilot, or who are interested in upgrading to the new Palm m500, we will make these devices available to members or our research family at about 50% of the retail price of $400. Each Research Associate or FRF may buy one Palm m500 at a price of $200. If you are interested, please send an e-mail to colligan@nber.org no later than August 1. Please include your name and shipping address in the e-mail. If you have an NBER grant that you would like to charge your Palm Pilot to, please indicate the name and project number of your grant in the message. If you will pay by check, simply indicate that in the message.

I hope that you will find this new data useful.
