Dear Environmental and Energy Economics Program Members -

Last summer, Don Fullerton told me that after nearly ten years of
outstanding program leadership, he was ready to pass the EEE director's
baton to a successor. I am very grateful to the many program members
who have made time in the last few months to talk with me about the
factors that have contributed to the program's success, and to identify
important considerations that bear on the program director transition.
I have learned a great deal about current developments in both energy
and environmental economics through this process.

I am delighted to announce that Catherine Wolfram of Berkeley has agreed
to serve as the next director of the EEE program. Catherine, who is the
Cora Jane Flood Professor of Business Administration at the Haas School
at Berkeley, has been active member of the EEE program since its
founding. She has been an NBER affiliate since 1997, a Research
Associate since 2006, and a long-serving member of the EEE program
steering committee. Catherine has made important research contributions
in both energy and environmental economics. Her work has ranged widely,
touching on electricity markets, climate policy, U.S. air pollution
regulations, and energy demand in the developing world. I look forward
to working with Catherine to build on the program's past successes and
to launch new initiatives. I hope that you will join me in welcoming
her to this new role, which she will assume on July 1.

I also hope that you will be able to attend the EEE Program Dinner in
Cambridge next Thursday evening, April 14, when we will collectively
thank Don Fullerton for his contributions as the program's inaugural
director. I look forward to seeing you then -- all best wishes.
