Call for papers: Market Adaptation to Climate Change

The probable failure to regulate carbon emissions, and the possibility of warming even if such regulation does emerge, point to the importance of investigating how we will live with a changing climate. How will we adapt to climate change? How can we mitigate its harmful effects? How can we exploit its beneficial effects? Should we expect mass migrations from tropical to subtropical areas as warming continues? How does the ability to adapt to climate change vary with latitude and wealth? Where should we expect future humanitarian crises to arise? Can we formulate policies that improve outcomes associated with a warmer world? Of particular interest is the role of individual decision making and market mechanisms in the adaptation process.

The Property and Environment Research Center (PERC) proposes to conduct a conference in 2015 investigating market adaptation to climate change. This will be part of PERC’s workshop series on markets, property rights, and the environment, funded by the Searle Freedom Trust.

The conference will take place at Stanford University, during the first week of August. PERC is able to provide a travel stipend and an honorarium for all presenters and discussants. Travel stipends for a small number of observers may also be provided.

no later than April 15, 2015. Receipt of papers will be acknowledged with 72 hours. Decisions will be made by approximately May 1. The conference will be held August 5-7 at the Stanford Institute of Economic Policy Research on the Stanford campus.
