When I started teaching economics, the standard fields included public, labor, and trade, etc., but did not include environmental or energy economics. Today our field truly came of age, when I received my paper copy of the JEL with seven full-length articles, ALL of which are about "Environmental and Energy Economics", and MOST of which are written by members of the NBER's EEE research program. It is a very impressive achievement. I've been tossing most of my printed issues of journals, but not this one; it is an essential textbook, covering many diverse topics within our new and now key field of economics. But this is only one example of how all of you have created and developed this new field. Congratulations to all of you!

Thanks, Don
