Dear EEE program members:

In case you missed my newsletter in April, it said that one new Research Associate (RA) appointment was Billy Pizer, one promotion to RA was Matt Neidell, and three new appointments of Faculty Research Fellows (FRFs) included Kelsey Jack, Paulina Oliva, and Nick Muller. But that's old news. The NEW news is that five more of our members were just promoted from FRF to RA, including Lucas Davis, Ryan Kellogg, Nolan Miller, Stephen Ryan, and Wolfram Schlenker. Congratulations! It's just further evidence of the great work being done by members of our group.

As further background info, the EEE program can normally expect to be able to appoint about three new FRF's per year, in the Spring. You can always suggest names to Jim Poterba or myself (Jim sends out an email in about January to ask for nominations). Promotions to RA must be approved by the Board of Directors, which meets twice per year (e.g. April and September).

Otherwise, please be reminded that the next EEE program meeting is Thursday and Friday, March 28-29, 2013, in Cambridge MA. It is organized by Larry Goulder, and it is not joint with any other NBER research program. That meeting will be a good time for us to focus on both energy papers and environmental papers that may or may not be related to other NBER research programs. The official call for papers will appear later from NBER's conference department, but the deadline for submissions will be about January 15 (watch for the call to see the exact date).

The following meeting will be the Summer Institute EEE workshop Monday-Tuesday July 22-23, 2013, also in Cambridge MA, organized by Maureen Cropper and Rob Williams. The call for papers will specify a submission deadline of about March 15.

If you do not have your own grants or other travel funds, then the NBER will pay for FRF and RA travel to the Spring meeting, and part of travel to the Summer meeting, even if you are not on the program. We want all members to participate! Also, on the NBER website, you can "login" to see the link to info for members (how to submit working papers, and who to ask for help at NBER). Click on "Forgot your password?". That will allow you to type in the email address that NBER has for you, where you will receive your username and password.

Please let me know about any other feedback or ideas you have for our program, including actual research projects that might involve joint efforts at funding, research, meetings, and publications!

Thanks, Don
