CALL FOR PAPERS

Per Krusell (Institute for International Economic Studies, Stockholm) and Tony Smith (Yale University) are organizing two conferences on the macroeconomics of climate change during the coming year---one in North America and one in Europe. The organizations involved are the Cowles Foundation of Yale University, the CEPR (Centre for Economic Policy Research, London, UK), and the IGC (International Growth Centre, London, UK). They have an ambition to host and support research in this field as well as an aim to promote global research cooperation on climate-economy issues. The chief purpose of these conferences is to bring together researchers from North America, Europe, and beyond to present, discuss, and learn about cutting-edge research at the interface of economics and the climate.

Both conferences welcome not only papers that study the global general-equilibrium effects of climate change across local, regional, and national economies, but also microeconomic studies that aim to quantify the effects of climate change and climate-related policies and can thereby inform general-equilibrium analyses.

The first conference, sponsored by the Cowles Foundation and the Yale Climate & Energy Institute, will be held on June 11 and 12, 2012 at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Travel and lodging expenses for all participants will be paid by the Cowles Foundation, including not only those of paper presenters and discussants but also those of a limited number of additional attendees.

The second conference, sponsored by the CEPR and the IGC, will be held on December 13, 2012 at the London School of Economics in London, England. The funding sources for this conference, which is somewhat smaller in size, are still being investigated but the expectation is that the travel and lodging of all participants will be covered.

Researchers interested in participating in one or both conferences should submit an extended abstract or working paper to the conference organizers (email: tony.smith_at_yale.edu<mailto:tony.smith_at_yale.edu>) and per.krusell_at_iies.su.se<mailto:per.krusell_at_iies.su.se>) by March 15, 2012. A submission should make clear which conference(s) the applicant wants to go to and where he/she is willing to serve as a discussant. Papers will be selected based on quality, separately for each conference. Submitting to one conference does not lower the chances of getting accepted at the other; we in fact very much hope that some people will attend both conferences.

Please feel free to distribute this call to anyone who might be interested. A pdf document of this call for papers is attached to this message.
