To minimize the intrusion, allow me to piggyback on John's invitation.

Gary Charness and I will be writing the Handbook's chapter on "Laboratory Experiments in Labor Economics".  We have consulted with John and agreed that the boundary between lab and field should be roughly at "Artefactual Field Experiments" which are experiments done with "real" subjects (e.g. managers) relevant to their real-world activities, but in the lab.   (So papers  in this or similar areas should be sent to both John and me).

Please send any suggestions, advice and papers to me, with a cc to Gary Charness: <charness@econ.ucsb.edu>

thanks,

Peter

Dear NBER Family Members:  Sorry for the intrusion.  I have been invited to write a chapter on "Field Experiments in Labor Economics"

for volume 4 of the Handbook of Labor Economics (edited by Orley Ashenfelter and David Card).  As a start, I am beginning with a broad

net--considering everything from the early social experiments of Heather Ross in the late 60s to more recent field experiments in small-scale labor markets.

I am sure that I am aware of only a subset of relevant material, and likely have missed many recent working papers.  Thus, in an effort to be as comprehensive as possible, I am writing to solicit advice on relevant literature.  Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Best,

John
