Dear Education, Health Economics, and Labor Studies Progam Members -

I am very sorry to share the news that long-time NBER Research Associate
John DiNardo passed away last Saturday, after a long battle with
leukemia. John, who received his Ph.D. from Princeton in 1990, was a
Professor of Economics and Public Policy at the University of Michigan.
He was on the faculty at UC-Irvine, and was an economist at the RAND
Corporation, prior to his move to Michigan in 2001.

John was known for his versatility as an applied microeconomist. His
wide-ranging contributions enhanced our understanding of labor market
institutions and other factors that have contributed to rising wage
inequality, of the role of regulation in health insurance markets,
of the labor market effects of immigration, and of a number of other
subjects. John was an active participant in many NBER activities, and
he will be deeply missed.
