Hi all,

We are writing with the sad news that Richard Sutch passed away on
September 19. Richard was Professor of Economics at UC Riverside
(Emeritus) and a longstanding Research Associate of the NBER's DAE and
Aging Programs. Richard contributed major insights to the field of economic
history. His research on slavery and emancipation, particularly his book *One
Kind Of Freedom* (co-authored with Roger Ransom) is a classic work. Among
many other honors, he was elected President of the Economic History
Association and Fellow of the Cliometric Society. We will miss his
thoughtful engagement with our group.
