China Multigenerational Panel Dataset Workshop, January 6-8, 2016, CCPR, UCLA, Los Angeles, CA

We are pleased to announce that we are organizing a short workshop to introduce the China Multigenerational Panel Datasets (CMGPD) to the research community. The CMGPD-Shuangcheng and CMGPD-Liaoning together provide nearly 3 million observations of more than 350,000 individuals who lived in northeast China in the 18th and 19th centuries. They are distinguished by their time depth, with some families covered for 7 generations, their geographic breadth, the quality of their recording of key demographic outcomes, and their detail on kinship within and without the household. These datasets have been publicly released via ICPSR (http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/ICPSR/series/265) and are available for download.

The workshop will provide background on these datasets, including the populations they cover, highlight strengths and weaknesses relevant to specific applications in demography, sociology, economics, and other fields, provide examples of use of advanced features of the data, and answer questions from users. More details about the workshop, including a day-by-day schedule, brief description of the data, and a sign-up to indicate interest, are available at: http://camerondcampbell.me/2015/08/china-multigenerational-panel-dataset-workshop-ucla-los-angeles-ca-january-6-8-2016/

We anticipate being able to provide domestic airfare and lodging for a limited number of participants.
