RE: Summer Institute 2015 - Call for Papers (UPDATED)

It is that time of year when we start planning for the NBER SummerInstitute. The Development of the American Economy workshop will take place from July 6-9, 2015 at the NBER's office, 1050 Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge, MA.
Charles Calomiris, Karen Clay and Trevon Logan will be organizing this year's workshop. As always, we would like to have a range of topics covered. This year we are organizing three types of sessions:

1) Regular sessions

2) Regular sessions featuring complete count census data. We invite submissions for papers using the new complete-count Census data (1790-1940) that is housed at the NBER. Many DAE members have started working with this data, and we hope to include some of these papers on the program. Furthermore, some members of the research team at the University of Minnesota that helped to put this data together will be at the Summer Institute and are interested in hearing our feedback on the data construction and usage. Depending on interest, we may plan an informal lunchtime session to share our experiences with this data.

3) Abstract sessions (5 minute presentations without Q&A). The abstract sessions are new. They are used in some other NBER groups as a way to advertise work in progress and provide more people with an opportunity to showcase their work. We plan to pick 10-12 for inclusion in special one-hour session. Time limits will be strictly enforced.
You can apply for any or all of the three sessions. If you have a paper that you would like to present at either of the first two types of sessions (please clearly mark complete count sessions with COUNT), please upload a copy of your paper, proposal or detailed abstract here by March 31, 2015: http://www.nber.org/confsubmit/backend/cfp?id=SI15DAE<https://exchange.andrew.cmu.edu/owa/redir.aspx?SURL=KiYYazKV_0Hrza1n1x_oJRzUzYrUxgLBylqcBXeQisvfkAUS8hTSCGgAdAB0AHAAOgAvAC8AdwB3AHcALgBuAGIAZQByAC4AbwByAGcALwBjAG8AbgBmAHMAdQBiAG0AaQB0AC8AYgBhAGMAawBlAG4AZAAvAGMAZgBwAD8AaQBkAD0AUwBJADEANQBEAEEARQA.&URL=http%3a%2f%2fwww.nber.org%2fconfsubmit%2fbackend%2fcfp%3fid%3dSI15DAE>. Submissions need not be completed papers.
If you have a paper that you would like to present at the Abstract (5 minutes per paper) session, please upload a copy of your abstract here by March 31, 2015: http://papers.nber.org/confsubmit/backend/cfp?id=SI15DAEA<https://exchange.andrew.cmu.edu/owa/redir.aspx?SURL=YY_7z1GTBMz9VS03E4ndkwEBUqZ_s3IiLO_QFvrXfxQHfEGX9RTSCGgAdAB0AHAAOgAvAC8AcABhAHAAZQByAHMALgBuAGIAZQByAC4AbwByAGcALwBjAG8AbgBmAHMAdQBiAG0AaQB0AC8AYgBhAGMAawBlAG4AZAAvAGMAZgBwAD8AaQBkAD0AUwBJADEANQBEAEEARQBBAA..&URL=http%3a%2f%2fpapers.nber.org%2fconfsubmit%2fbackend%2fcfp%3fid%3dSI15DAEA>
You should also feel free to suggest interesting papers by those outside the DAE program, especially those by junior colleagues who might benefit from exposure to the NBER (and vice versa). Invitations and logistical information will be sent out by early May.
If you have questions regarding other aspects of the Summer Institute, please contact Rob Shannon in the NBER's Conference Department, 617/868-3900 or rshannon_at_nber.org<mailto:rshannon_at_nber.org>
We look forward to seeing you all in Cambridge.
