Dear Members of the Program on Children -

Janet Currie, who has done an outstanding job as program director,
recently raised the possibility of moving to a "co-directors" model for
the program. This can be advantageous in providing additional
leadership for program-based research projects and grant activity. In
response to this suggestion, I reached out to a small group of program
affiliates, and discussed the factors that have contributed to the
program's success, the considerations that needed to be weighed in
selecting a co-director, and the most exciting and promising new
research directions. I have learned a great deal about current
developments in the field through this process.

I am delighted to announce that Anna Aizer of Brown University has
agreed to join Janet in leading the Program on Children; they will serve
together as co-directors. Anna has been an NBER affiliate since 2004.
She has wide-ranging research interests, including the impact of
transfer programs on child poverty, the links between health stresses
and the development of children, the effects of criminal justice
policies on young adults, and the factors that influence the
inter-generational transmission of poverty.

I look forward to working with both Anna and Janet as co-directors of
the program, and I hope that you will join me in welcoming Anna to her
new role.

All best wishes.
