To Members of NBER's Children's Program,

We received this message from Dr.Evans at NICHD.  It is a good funding opportunity for economics, and seems especially well-suited to NBER's strengths in the areas of both Children and Aging.

NEW FUNDING OPPORTUNITY: Intergenerational Family Resource Allocation (Deadline 2/20/03):
The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and the National Institute on Aging (NIA) invite research grant applications proposing intergenerational research to help us understand how private behavior is manifest in allocating family resources across the generations and how public policy affects these allocations. Research is solicited that examines the manner in which private family resource allocation decisions result in improvements in health, wealth accumulation (including human capital), and well-being for children, active adults and the elderly, and how public policy interacts with family processes to alter these results. Investigators may propose secondary data analysis and/or new data collection.  See:  http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-HD-02-030.html for the complete RFA.

If you would like to discuss possible research topics, please contact Jon Gruber.  If you would like to learn more about what is involved in preparing an NIH proposal and how we can help, please feel free to give me a call.  Besides answering any questions about the grant requirements, I can send you samples of successful past proposals from the Children's Program.   In any case, if you are planning to submit a proposal, please let us know so we can keep track of how many proposals we will be working on.

I look forward to working with you.
Sincerely,

Janet Stein
