Dear Members of the CF, EEE, EFG, IO, LE, and PRIE Programs -

The NBER has recently received funding from the Department of Energy and
the NSF to launch an initiative on the Economics of Energy Markets.
Core topics of interest include the financing of energy exploration,
investment, and production, the determinants of innovation in the energy
sector, the regional and macroeconomic consequences of energy price
shocks, and the economic impact of energy infrastructure investment and
the regulatory policies that affect it. This initiative, which will be
directed by Richard Newell of Duke, has funds to support seven distinct
research projects. I have attached a detailed call for proposals. If
you are interested in these issues I hope that you will consider
submitting a project proposal. The submission deadline is Wednesday
November 4. Please feel free to forward this call for proposals to
other researchers who might be interested in participating in this
initiative.

Thank you and all best wishes.

Jim Poterba
