INTERNATIONAL DIFFERENCES IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The National Bureau of Economic Research announces a conferences on
International Differences in Entrepreneurship to be co-edited by Antoinette
Schoar and Josh Lerner. The proceedings of the conference will be eligible
to be included in an NBER conference volume after a peer review process.
The aim of the conference and the NBER volume is to bring together
researchers from different subdisciplines in economics, finance and
management who study entrepreneurship and self-employment in an
international context. We hope to include research on developed as well as
developing countries.

While submissions from a wide range of perspectives and topics are welcome,
we specifically invite papers on the following:

- Determinants of entrepreneurial activity and small businesses across
countries and sectors

- Institutional and regulatory differences that affect small businesses and
entrepreneurial activity

- The determinants and consequences of the structure of the financial
sector and product markets on startup firms

Interested authors are encouraged to submit a 2 page research proposal that
includes an abstract of the intended paper, an outline of the methodologies to
be used, and a brief statement about the current state of the research project.

The research proposals are to be submitted by January 15th, 2007 to:

Authors will be notified of acceptance by February 15th, 2007. A
pre-conference is scheduled to be held in May 2007 and the formal
conference will take place
in January, 2008. Authors of accepted papers will be reimbursed for regular
transportation expenses for both the pre-conference and conference, and receive
an honorarium of $7500 per paper for the timely submission of the draft and
final manuscript.
