As part of the Sloan "Pin Factory" program of site visits, we are planning
a visit to State Street Corporation's operations center in Quincy, MA on
the afternoon of Friday April 14th.
State Street provides transaction processing, asset management, trust,
securities processing, cash management, securities lending and a variety
of other "back office" services for institutional investors and mutual
funds. They have over $6 trillion of assets in custody, and $700m of
assets under management, which have grown approximately five times over
the past decade while their work force has shrunk slightly.
The visit should give us an interesting look at the operation of a highly
automated, information-intensive business process, and a chance to
interact with senior officers of the corporation.
The provisional schedule for the visit is as follows:
Friday, April 14th
11:45 Depart NBER, Cambridge
12:30-1:30 Lunch at State Street, Quincy
1:30-4:00 Tour of operations center, and meeting with management
5:00 Return to Cambridge
