Call for Papers

Middlebury College Workshop on Philanthropic Mechanism Design
April 24-26, 2009

The Department of Economics at Middlebury College will
sponsor a workshop in Vermont, USA on the economics of
charity April 24-26, 2009.

The workshop will focus on both normative and positive
issues within the economics of charity. We are interested
in a mixture of papers: theoretical papers, studies that
utilize naturally occurring data, and experimental work,
both in the lab and the field. The common thread will be
developing and testing extant theory within the area of
philanthropic giving.

The deadline for submission of papers is January 30, 2009.
Submissions should be sent via email to Jeffrey Carpenter at
Middlebury College (jpc_at_middlebury.edu). The program
committee (James Andreoni, Jeffrey Carpenter, Jessica
Holmes, John List, and Peter Matthews) will choose papers
and notify authors by February 27, 2009.

Middlebury College will fund the travel expenses of authors
of accepted papers. Subject to the usual refereeing
process, workshop papers will appear in a special issue of
the Journal of Public Economics. Questions regarding the
workshop can be addressed to Jeffrey Carpenter.
