Dear Members of the Aging Program:

An update/reminder: The January 15^th deadline for submissions to an
NBER/CEPR conference in Lugano, Switzerland April 1-2, 2022 is fast
approaching.  We recognize the considerable uncertainty associated with
planning a conference for April; while our goal is for an in-person
conference, we will decide by February 15th 2022 whether to switch from
in-person to hybrid or on-line formats.

*NBER Call for Papers
Aging, Cognitive Ability, and Decision-Making
April 1-2, 2022 -- Lugano, Switzerland *

Populations are growing older throughout the developed world. This makes
understanding the role of changing health status, including changing
cognitive capacity, at older ages a topic of increasing importance.  The
evolution of decision-making skills in late life can have important
consequences for many dimensions of household well-being, including
household finance, health outcomes, and the prospect of independent living.

To promote research on the links between aging, cognitive ability, and
decision-making, the Center for Economic and Political Research on Aging
(CEPRA) and the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) will host a
workshop in Lugano, Switzerland, on April 1-2, 2022.  The meeting will
focus on a wide range of issues associated with aging, cognition, and
decision-making, including:

   •  Behavioral economics, cognition, and biases in decision-making;
   •  The effect of cognition and its age-related decline on labor
market participation and household decision-making with regard to health
care, pension, savings, and insurance choices;
   •  Racial, ethnic, and socio-economic inequality in the prevalence
and treatment of diseases related to cognition decline such as
Alzheimer’s Disease;
   •  International comparisons and national studies related to
cognitive ability and decision-making among older individuals.

Papers for the meeting will be selected by a committee comprised of
Fabrizio Mazzonna (CEPRA and Università della Svizzera Italiana),
Jonathan Skinner (Dartmouth and NBER) and Kathleen McGarry (UCLA and
NBER).  The conference organizers welcome submissions of both empirical
and theoretical research, and encourage submissions by scholars who are
early in their careers, who are not NBER affiliates, and who are from
groups that are underrepresented in the economics profession. Papers
that have been accepted for publication and that will be published by
April 2022 are not eligible for presentation.

To be considered for inclusion on the program, papers or detailed
abstracts, in PDF format, must be uploaded by midnight (EST) *January
15, 2022* via the following link.  Authors of accepted papers will be
notified by in late January, 2022.
