Dear NBER Family Members (PE and AG):

The financial status of public pensions and retiree health plans is one of the most important public finance questions confronting state and local governments. In August 2010, an NBER research conference on this topic, co-organized by Jeffrey Brown and Robert Clark, was held in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The Journal of Pension Economics and Finance has published a special issue<http://journals.cambridge.org/jpef/10:02>, containing 8 papers from the conference plus an introduction by special issue co-editors Jeffrey Brown, Robert Clark, and myself on the economics of state and local pension systems. The primary aim of this special issue is to provide greater understanding of the problems facing public retirement plans and to highlight important questions for future research on the economics of public pension systems.

With the generous cooperation of Cambridge University Press, we are delighted to be able to provide free access to you to this special issue at the following link: http://journals.cambridge.org/jpef/10:02 .

Cambridge University Press also has 50 surplus hard copies which are available at no cost to NBER FRFs and RAs. Please contact Patrick McCartan [pmccartan_at_cambridge.org] if you would like a copy sent to you.

Best Regards,
Josh Rauh
