>Pilot Grant Competition: Call for Proposals
>Pensions, Private Accounts, and Retirement Savings
> Over the Life Course
>
>The Panel Study of Income Dynamics, with support from the National
>Institute on Aging, announces a pilot grant competition to provide funding
>to 5-10 scholars in the range of $5,000-$20,000 (direct costs) each to use
>PSID data to conduct research in the area of pensions, private accounts,
>and retirement savings over the life course. Funded projects will
>generate papers that will be presented at a two-day conference on life
>course financial well-being in the fall of 2008.
>
>The PSID has included extensive information on pensions, wealth,
>consumption/expenditures, health, and other relevant domains in various
>years since the survey began in 1968. All of these domains are measured
>in the last several waves.
>
>The goals of this competition are to bring together scholars in the area
>of life course financial well-being to generate additional scientific and
>policy-relevant findings, facilitate future collaborations including NIH
>proposal submissions, and provide feedback to PSID about possible needs
>for content changes and/or future data collections.
>
>How to apply: To apply for funding, please send a 3-5 page proposal that
>describes the specific aims, background and significance, preliminary
>studies, and research design. The PSID data that will be used in the study
>should be clearly described. The proposal should include a timeline and
>simple budget.
>
>Criteria: Proposals will be chosen based on thematic relevance,
>significance, innovation, feasibility, strength of research design, and
>likelihood of leading to a larger externally funded research project
>(e.g., NIH R01, R03, R21).
>
>Eligibility: Applicants most hold a doctorate from an accredited
>institution and have an appointment as faculty, research scientist,
>professor, investigator, or postdoctoral fellow.
>
>Funding: Projects are supported for one year. Expenses may include
>salary support for investigators. Conference travel expenses will be
>provided to all grantees separate from the amount of their award.
>
>Deadline: Please send proposals to Bob Schoeni in care of Patty Hall
>(<mailto:pathall_at_umich.edu>pathall_at_umich.edu) no later than October 19,
>2007. A review committee will evaluate the proposals, and its decisions
>will be announced shortly after the submission deadline. Anticipated
>start date for the grants is January 2008. The conference on financial
>well-being will occur in the fall of 2008, where grantees will present
>their research. Please note that an award is contingent on human subjects
>approval by your institutionĂ¢€™s IRB.
