Dear Research Colleagues  -

Plans are now well underway for the 2023 NBER Summer Institute,
which will take place between Monday July 10 and Friday July 28.
Meetings will be held in hybrid format, with in-person gatherings,
opportunities for remote participation in many sessions, and YouTube
postings for several weeks after most meetings.  The meeting schedule
may be found here:

https://www.nber.org/conferences/summer-institute-2023

If you are interested in submitting a paper for potential presentation,
the deadline is *Wednesday, March 22, at 11:59pm ET*.  Further
information may be found here:

https://www.nber.org/calls-papers-and-proposals/2023-nber-sumer-institute

Meeting invitations will be sent in late April and early May.

This year's Martin Feldstein Lecture will be delivered during the
week of July 10 by the former ECB President and prime minister of Italy,
Mario Draghi.  The Methods Lectures, on "Linear Panel Event Studies,"
will be presented on Friday, July 28 by Jesse Shapiro (Harvard and NBER)
and Sophie Sun (CEMFI).

For the benefit of researchers who may be bringing children to the
Summer Institute, I am attaching a listing of summer camps that are near
the Royal Sonesta Hotel.  The NBER does not endorse any of these camps,
but provides this material for your information.  Please be aware that
many camps have registration deadlines in March, well before the
detailed Summer Institute schedule is posted.

Let me also mention two other conference-related items. First, as a
way of reminding all meeting participants of the NBER Conference Code of
Conduct and underscoring the importance of complying with it, from now
on anyone who is registering for an NBER conference will need to affirm
that they have read the code and that they agree to comply with it.  You
will see this new step in the conference reply process when you next
register for a meeting.

Second, I learned recently of a sophisticated phishing attack in
which a researcher received an email that mentioned the Royal Sonesta
Hotel and the name and date of an NBER conference, and provided a link
that could be used to reserve a hotel room.  The message was a scam.
Please remember that the NBER will not ask you to make a reservation
directly with a hotel.  It does not use third parties to book
reservations; they are made only by conference department staff.  If you
receive any message that mentions an NBER meeting, but that looks
suspicious, please do not respond to it but notify our conference team
at confer_at_nber.org.

Thank you and all best wishes.

Jim Poterba
